NEW SALT WASHING AND IODIZATION LINE IN ETHIOPIA

Serra Process has recently manufactured and commissioned a new salt washing and iodization line with a capacity of 25 tons per hour in Ethiopia. The project was developed for a local salt producer aiming to enhance product quality and increase production efficiency through the implementation of advanced washing technology.

The client relied on Serra to design and deliver a fully automated and customized salt processing solution, specifically adapted to the characteristics of the local raw salt and the requirements of the domestic market. The raw salt, extracted from regional deposits, presented a relatively high level of insoluble impurities and moisture, making the washing process essential to achieve food-grade quality.

To address these challenges, Serra implemented its multi-stage washing system, which includes a primary crusher, washing cells, and a brine washer to ensure deep purification. The process is completed with a pusher centrifuge for efficient moisture removal and a 25kg bagging section dedicated to iodized salt production for local consumption — a key factor in improving public health and nutrition in the region.

This integrated configuration guarantees consistent salt purity, optimal moisture levels, and reliable operation under demanding production conditions. Designed for continuous performance, the line combines robust mechanical components with energy-efficient operation and easy maintenance.

Serra Process remains committed to supporting salt producers worldwide with innovative, tailor-made solutions that optimize quality, sustainability, and profitability.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all professionals involved in the successful installation and commissioning of this plant, as well as to our partners in Ethiopia for their trust and collaboration.
